What this tool does

The shift scheduler gives front-of-house and back-of-house leads a single grid to draft coverage before it hits the team chat. Each row binds a person to a role, calendar date, and clock span, then subtracts unpaid break minutes so labor estimates reflect real paid time. Total hours recalculates on every keystroke, which helps compare a proposed eight-hour cook block against a six-hour split. Below the grid, a schedule-by-date panel stacks the same records visually so you can read Monday versus Tuesday at a glance—similar to a condensed week strip. Conflict detection watches for the same employee name on the same day with overlapping intervals and surfaces a warning banner before you text the roster out.

Who should use it

Cafes, quick-service restaurants, retail shops, and event crews that still plan in spreadsheets will appreciate the lightweight flow. It complements the work hours and overtime tracker when you move from planned shifts to actual punch data, and the hourly to salary calculator when you translate hours into pay bands.

How to use it

Add a shift row per block—not per employee per day if they split roles, split rows. Enter 24-hour style times using the browser time picker. Break minutes cover unpaid meal or rest. Watch total hours and the grouped view update. If conflicts appear, shorten a block, stagger start times, or assign a different teammate. Remove rows you cancel so the summary stays truthful.

Example

Saturday brunch needs two servers and one cook. Sara works 10:00–18:00 with thirty minutes unpaid; Omar opens the line 09:00–17:00. The tool shows both on Saturday’s card and totals their paid hours. If Sara is accidentally given a second 14:00–22:00 row the same day, the conflict banner calls it out before publish.
